Los Angeles Dodgers v Philadelphia Phillies, July 16, 1992Veterans Stadium, Section 238, Row 3
A popular daytime Business Persons Special played at 12:35 on a Thursday. We were guests of a law firm who used such events to grease our palms. I'm not easily bought. So they took us to a bunch of strip bars after wards. Until we could be bought.
Tom Candiotti got the nod for the Dodgers while Terry Mulholland went for the Phils.
Both went 8 innings in a pitchers duel. It took 6 innings to get something on the board. And it took small ball to do it. Jose Offerman doubled followed by a Mike Sharperson walk set the stage for Darryl Strawberry. Strawberry hit a single up the middle to score Offerman.
The Phils responded in the bottom half of the 6th with a Dave Hollins 2 bagger. Candiotti then walked Darren Daulton. Wes Chamberlain found a hole between short and 3rd to score Hollins and tie the score. The Phils added another in the 7th with a sac fly by John Kruk scoring Lenny Dykstra.
Sharperson hit a 2 run homer in the 8th for the Dodgers. Reliever Mitch Williams came in for the Phils in the top of the 9th behind 3-2. Williams gave up 4 hits and 4 earned runs.
Down 7-2, the Phils had a rally in the bottom of the 9th against Dodgers relievers Roger McDowell, John Candelaria and Jim Gott scoring 3.
Dodgers 7 Phils 5. A small crowd by Business Person Specials standards of 34,566. The Phils were a 6th place team 14 games back at the time.
