George Brett got things started in the top half of the first with a double and was knocked in with a Danny Tartabull RBI single. The Sox Phil Plantier countered with a two run triple in the lower half of the inning scoring Wade Boggs and Jody Reed. Mike Greenwell's sac fly allowed Plantier to tag up.
The Royals notched another run in the 2nd. The starters Luis Aquino for KC and Jeff Readon for the home team pitched deep with no more runs allowed. Readon gave up a 2 run homer to pinch hitter Walter Cromartie in the top of the ninth to put KC up for good. The ball landed deep in the right field stands. The Royals won 4-3. Fenway had 34,009 in the stands this Saturday afternoon.
